Unit 2 A new student
Good morning/afternoon, everyone! I’m very glad to stand here to interpret my lesson. Today my topic is “A new student”. I am going to introduce my lesson from the following aspects: the analysis of teaching material and students, teaching aims, teaching key points and difficult points, teaching and studying methods, teaching procedures and blackboard design.
I. Analysis of teaching material
Firstly, let’s focus on the analysis of teaching material.
This lesson is a new one of Unit 2. The topic of this unit is about introducing school to a new student. It is from Oxford University Press English book, the first semester of grade 5. It’s very important for students’ further study. Through this lesson, students can know how to introduce their school to others.
II. Analysis of students
Secondly, it is about the students. Our students are in Grade 5. They are active and curious, interested in new things. After learning English for 2 years, they have some basic English background knowledge, so I would attach importance to the communication with them, providing them more chances of using language.
III. Analysis of teaching aims
Based on the New Curriculum Standard and the analysis of teaching material and students, I set the following teaching aims:
Knowledge aim:
Students can read new words such as classroom, floor, computer, etc and use sentence patterns such as “How many ... are there ... ? There are ... .” to make sentences correctly.
Ability aim:
Students can use new words and sentence patterns correctly in their daily life.
Emotional aim:
Students can express themselves in public bravely and cooperate with their classmates.
IV. Analysis of key and difficult points
According to the aims of three-dimension, the key point of this lesson is: Students can read new words such as classroom, floor, computer, etc and use sentence patterns such as “How many ... are there ... ? There are ... .” to make sentences correctly.
And the difficult point is: Students can use new words and sentence patterns correctly in their daily life.
V. Analysis of teaching and studying methods
Now, let me talk about teaching methods and study methods. When I deal with this lesson, I’ll do my best to carry out some teaching theories of the New Curriculum Standard. I would make the students be the real masters of the class and I would act just as a guide to bring their ability into full play. The teaching and studying methods I would use are Communication teaching method, Task based teaching method and Audio-lingual teaching method.
VI. Analysis of teaching procedures
Next, let’s focus on the teaching procedures. I will finish the lesson in 5 steps.
Step 1 Warming up
After greeting with the students, I will sing a song with them together. By doing this, the atmosphere of the class will be warmed up and students will pay their attention to the class.
Step 2 Pre-listening
With the help of PPT, I would like to show the pictures of classroom, floor, computer, and let students guess what they are. Then I will give the right answer. And I will ask students to read the new words classroom, floor, computer after me. After that, I will create a situation about a new student. I will let students imagine: If there is a new student coming today, how could they introduce the new school to him? This step can help students learn new content better.
Step 3 While-listening
I will play the tape twice. For the first listening, I will write two statements on the blackboard. When they finish listening, I will ask a student to choose the right main idea of the listening material. I will give him a candy for prize. Then I will play it again. In this time students should grasp some detailed information and answer the following questions: ①How many classrooms are there in Yang Ling’s school? ②Where is Yang Ling’s classroom? ③Is there a music room in Yang Ling’s school? And I will choose some students to answer. I also will give them some candies for prize. This step can help students understand listening material clearly.
Step 4 Post-listening
After listening activity, students has known the main content of the dialogue. Then I will ask them to do a role-play with their deskmates. One student acts as a new student and one student acts as a teacher who shows the new student around. When they finish, I will choose some groups to perform their dialogues in front of the class. This step can help students practice their new knowledge in the class and strengthen their confidence to speak English.
Step 5 Summary and homework
